Power

Power is work done per unit time and also energy transferred per unit time.

P = W / t   and   P = ΔE / t

Unit: watt (W). 1 W = 1 J/s.

A 60 kg student climbs a 8.0 m rope in 10 s at constant speed. Take g = 10 N/kg. Calculate her useful power output.

Worked example: work 4800 joules in 10 seconds, power 480 watts
W = mgΔh = 4800 J, then P = W / t = 480 W.
