The visible spectrum

Dispersion is the splitting of white light into colours, shown by refraction in a glass prism.

The traditional seven colours in order of increasing frequency (and decreasing wavelength) are: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet.

Red is least refracted; violet is most refracted.

Visible light of a single frequency is monochromatic.
